Earthquake in Haiti

Earthquake in Haiti

http://bit.ly/6HxQQNA severe earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter devastated Haiti on January 12, 2010. This is the most severe earthquake to hit that impoverished country in 200 years. The death toll is expected to reach thousands and it will likely be many days until the impact is fully known. The epicenter was near the capital of Port-au-Prince. Already there are reports that the presidential palace, a major hotel and the UN Headquarters collapsed, leaving hundreds buried in the rubble. According to the International Red Cross, up to 3 million people have been affected by the quake.

As in the past, the Reform Jewish community has a long history of generosity when natural disasters devastate communities around the world. Your generosity at this critical time enables us to play a role in recovery efforts and bring healing and hope to those whose lives have been affected. Donations to the Union for Reform Judaism Haiti Relief Fund can be made online or by check (note: Haiti Relief in the memo section) to:

Dear MAZON Partners & Friends,

Tuesday, a major earthquake struck Haiti. Buildings crumbled, hospitals collapsed, and even the Presidential palace fell. Today, countless people dig through rubble with their bare hands, looking for any trace of loved ones.

In response to this humanitarian crisis, MAZON has established an Emergency Haiti Fund. Donations to the fund make an immediate impact: http://mazon.org/go/helphaiti

MAZON has a long-standing dedication to health services and agricultural development in Haiti. Already, one of our long-time partners is on the ground in Port-au-Prince with a team of first responders. In under 24 hours, our donors have already given over $40,000 to provide lifesaving medical care and emergency food relief.

Looking ahead, we pledge to rebuild farming and nutrition programs and keep Haitians healthy after emergency teams have left. This long-term strategy has worked in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, and it will work in Haiti.

We will continue to monitor events on the ground, and post updates on MAZON.org as more information comes in.

MAZON remains committed to healing & feeding the Haitian people. Help us make that a reality.

Please encourage those who want to help to contribute to the Emergency Haiti Fund at: http://mazon.org/go/helphaiti.

Thanks for all you do.

Sincerely,

Eric Signature
