Cantor Renee Waghalter joined Congregation Jewish
Community North in August 2009. She
believes that a good Jewish education is a basic right of every Jewish person
and that exposure to all kinds of Jewish anowledge allows us to make authentic
choices in our Jewish living.
This
commitment to fostering active participation in all areas of Jewish life led her
to become a Jewish educator in 1988 and a cantor in 1996. Cantor Waghalter has been involved in
classroom teaching, supervision, curriculum development and school-wide
programming as well as bar/bat mitzvah programming and preparation, pastoral
counseling, adult education, family education, and creation of innovative
worship services in congregations in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont and Houston.
Her
cantorial style invites everyone to participate and feel comfortable, and she
loves hearing the voices of the congregation lifted in song. Cantor Waghalter was raised in Houston and
has a BA in Judaic Studies from Brown University. She and her husband, Dave are the proud
parents of one-year-old Zev.
