Announcing our second annual Kosher Corn Beef Lunch Fundraiser

Proceeds to benefit Congregation Jewish Community North and Northwest Assistance Ministries

We were successful in 2008 with our first Corned Beef Sandwich Lunch Fundraiser that we have decided to do it again!  Last year we sold over 900 sandwiches, which resulted in revenues of over $10,000. We were able to donate $1144 to Northwest Assistance Ministries. CJCN has belonged to NAM since NAM started. This is a wonderful way to give back to our community!

Our pick up and delivery date for 2009 is March 23.

Our 2009 Corned Beef Committee is forming and in order for it to succeed, we need you. We need sub-committee coordinators to help with purchasing, with marketing and with keeping track of the money! Do you have a business that you would like to promote?

We have attractive sponsorships available!

Chairing this event is Rob Greenberg and Dee Koblenz. If you would like more information on our next Kosher Corned Beef Fundraiser, please email them at cornedbeef@cjcn.org.

The Torah: Portion-by-Portion
by Rabbi Seymour Rossel
368 pages, paperback
Torah Aura Productions
http://www.torahaura.com/

Learning the highways and byways of the Torah has never been so enjoyable and so intriguing. The Torah: Portion-by-Portion brings together the fruits of the last 250 years of modern Bible study and the best of traditional commentary.

Each chapter, covering a single portion of the Torah as read in the synagogue, features a wealth resources, including selections of Torah text in gender-sensitive translation; “Quotes to Remember” in Hebrew and English; a synopsis of the traditional Haftarah and the reason this prophetic reading was paired with the portion; interactive topical discussion questions; graphs, charts, maps, and photographs that illuminate archaeological finds and biblical criticism; wide-ranging comments from Talmud, Midrash, Rashi, and other traditional commentators—set side-by-side with comments from modern Bible scholars including Cassuto, Leibowitz, Peli, Bamberger, Plaut, and Friedman; and evidence from archaeology, linguistics, Egyptology, Assyriology, and a dozen other sciences that have been applied to the study of Torah over the last two-and-a-half centuries.

With The Torah: Portion-by-Portion liberal Jews—Conservative, Reform, and Reconstructionist—have immediate access to an interactive way of studying the Torah. The book can be read from cover to cover, or used as a resource in preparing talks about a particular Torah portion. As an introduction to Torah study, it bridges the gap between Bible stories and commentaries by scholars like Plaut, Sarna, and Tigay.
